Cory has been a part of AgencyBloc since the beginning, and he's watched the team grow over the years to what AgencyBloc is today. Here's what Cory has to say about company culture:
When I say culture, what do you think of?
For me, culture is the way people interact, take responsibility, trust & treat each other.
What does a company’s work culture entail?
I think work culture is the "personality" of an organization. It shapes every interaction—both internal and with customers. Work culture is the attitude that people have toward each other, their work, and the company.
What does a good work culture mean to you?
I think a good work culture is an environment where people can use their individual strengths as a team to do something great, all while having fun doing it!
A good work culture also provides the autonomy to do your part without constant oversight. People that fit into this type of culture tend to treat each other with respect, trust each other, and push aside any individual motives for the interests of the team.
What has always been important to you when job-hunting?
I don't personally have much experience job hunting. However, when we started AgencyBloc, we hoped that the team would embrace a culture of trust, respect, and responsibility. You can't dictate culture—it's a by-product of your team. And I couldn't be more excited about the chemistry of our team and the culture they are building at AgencyBloc.
What is your favorite thing about going to work?
Making great products that people use to run their business every day. I've worked in large companies where you question whether your contributions actually make a difference, or you are constantly playing a game of politics to get something done. That's definitely not the case here; every day we make a difference, and we move forward.
Everyone has a rough day now and then; but when you're surrounded by a great team, they pick you back up and get you ready for the next challenge.
What is the most memorable moment thus far that has happened at AB?
Since I'm a techie at heart, the re-design we completed in 2013 (codename "Optimus"). We implemented a responsive interface (flexes to all screen sizes, including mobile), while re-architecting a lot of the system as well. It took a lot of dedication and teamwork, but we advanced our platform in a great way that gave us a strong foundation to build on.
So, what do you think?
