Erica's Interview

It's Erica's turn to share her thoughts and feelings on work culture. Erica is our fireball leader and encourager—she's always excited for the next project and helping team members excel. See what Erica says about company culture:

When I say culture, what do you think of?

The sometimes visible, sometimes invisible “glue” that holds a group of people together.

What does a company’s work culture entail?

The energy of the group, the manner in which communication is managed and the nature of accepted interactions.

What does a good work culture mean to you?

A good work culture to me means that everyone engaged in the building of the business, feels just as engaged in building and nurturing the company culture. I have found, for me, one of the most important elements of a good work culture is the freedom to fail. I have learned far more from the failures that I was allowed to make in the last five years, than from avoiding any risk at all for fear of appearing incompetent in the 10 years previous. I have also found the most success in the past five years, both in my career and personal growth. Mentors and leaders that help you get up and learn after you fall down, nurture trust and confidence. When trust and confidence is demonstrated at the leadership level, it spreads through a culture rapidly and becomes the base for very powerful team successes. One of my favorite quotes pertains to this very subject. "Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is.” —Mark Twain. When you trust that your company will support you through a (reasonable) failure, you have the confidence to go out on a limb for greater success.

What is your favorite thing about going to work?

Putting crowns on Mike when we’re in a video Hangout. :/

My favorite thing about going to work at AgencyBloc is the genuine interest in what other teams are doing, and that I see it manifest through genuine interest in each other. There is a feeling of comfort that lies below the energy in the office that is just really nice to be around. No drama. Just hard-working teammates.

*We put crowns on you, too, Erica :)

Conference Call

What is the most memorable moment thus far that has happened at AB?

When we completed our first webinar. It felt like we had really started to prime the pump, the pistons were moving and all I wanted to do was… more! It’s that kind of energy that makes me happy to get up and go to work.

Other comments?

Another great quote:

"Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again." —Richard Branson

So, what do you think?

What do you think makes a great work culture? What makes you like coming to work every day? Let us know in the comments!
