What is Business Process Management?

Business process management and workflow automation work in tandem to help businesses of all industries work smarter, not harder. For many years, Gartner has been consistently studying the effects of business process management (BPM) on businesses and found staggering results: implementing BPM boosts the success rate of your projects by 70%!

Today, we’ll discuss what BPM and workflow Automation are and how you can start integrating them into your process.

Some of the main terms you’ll see in this blog are:

  • Business Process Management
  • Workflow Automation
  • Business Process Automation

Business Process Management (BPM)

CIO defines business process management as: “Business process management (BPM) is the practice of aligning goals and processes as businesses evolve.”

Workflow Automation

Tallyfy defines workflow automation as: “Workflow automation is a created series of automated actions for the steps in a business process. It is used to improve everyday business processes because when your work flows, you can concentrate on getting more done and focusing on the things that matter. It allows teams to spend more time on the actual work itself and less time on the processes that support them.”

In AgencyBloc, we call our automation Automated Workflow. Learn more about how workflows can help enhance your day-to-day and help you work smarter, not harder.

Business Process Automation

Laserfiche defines business process automation as: “is the use of technology to automate repeatable, day-to-day tasks. It accelerates how work gets done by routing information to the right person at the right time through user-defined rules and actions.”

They’re all very similar, but Business Process Automation is a bridge of the two to help your agency thrive. We’ll break it down to discuss how you can bring both BPM and Workflow Automation into your agency to help you create Business Process Automation.

Creating Business Process Management

We often discuss the importance of using technology to make your agency more efficient and effective. However, it’s crucial you have a plan for your adoption. Implementing technology without a plan won’t prove all that fruitful for you or your agency.

Remember, technology is great, but it is not magic.

The goal of implementing BPM into your agency is to create efficiencies with reason behind them that you can then build up quantifiable, S.M.A.R.T. goals around. Without the process, your agents will work independently of one another without cohesiveness. This can lead to confusion, frustration, and, at the worst, loss of revenue.
